Patrol

Patrol
The Patrol Division is commanded by the Patrol Bureau Assistant Chief. Two Lieutenants and a Sergeant and Corporal for each of the four patrol shifts make up the supervisory team.

Duties
Patrol officers are normally the first to be dispatched to crimes in progress. However, they have many other responsibilities. To name just a few, they conduct criminal investigations, assist stranded motorists, investigate traffic accidents, provide traffic enforcement and patrol assigned districts. Many officers serve in specialized positions while also performing their patrol duties. Some of the positions include Special Response Team (SRT), Canine Handler, Critical Accident Investigation Team (CAIT), and Field Training Officer.

For police patrol purposes, the City of Sherman is geographically divided into four sections or beats. Each beat is assigned to at least one officer who is responsible for the calls for service originating in that beat.
