Officer of the Year

Officer Ian Oden

Officer Ian Oden was awarded the Officer of the 4th Quarter of 2018. He had been instrumental in the successful launch of the Sherman Police Department's Motorcycle Unit. During that quarter, he logged 465 traffic contacts to increase motorist safety and educate the public concerning Texas traffic laws. He voluntarily adjusted his duty hours to be available to assist when the highest amount of traffic occurs. He responded to traffic accidents and assisted in calls for service when patrol units were busy on other calls and made himself available for special events in an attempt to build community relations. He also assisted with identifying problem areas within the City to focus on traffic enforcement and utilized the Department's SMART trailer to increase safety awareness. Officer Oden received approximately 10 compliments from citizens to whom he issued traffic citations that indicated he is polite and professional. He is a member of the Department's crisis negotiator team and assisted with K9 training. He is respected in the Department for his attitude, personality, and work ethic.

For his dedication to duty and his willingness to go above and beyond the normal course of his duties, Officer Ian Oden is hereby recognized as the Sherman Police Department's Officer of the year for 2018.

Civilian of the Year

Sherri French

Sherri French received the Civilian of the 4th Quarter of 2018. She was rehired in October 2017 as a Records Specialist. The Department had been without that position for approximately a month. The Records Unit started the 4th Quarter of 2018 with 432 cases that needed to file to the District Attorney's Office. Sherri prioritized her daily tasks to focus on those case filings as her top priority. The Unit ended the year with 140 cases that needed to be filed. This is a reflection of Sherri's commitment to bring the case filings current and exceed the expected time frame to accomplish this goal. Sherri also mentored a new employee in learning the case filing process. In addition, Sherri assisted with the audit and review of the Family Violence Forms for the UCR reporting. She also reviewed cases to compile the drug totals and to verify laboratory analysis.

In recognition of her exemplary performance of duty on a daily basis, Sherri French is hereby recognized as the Sherman Police Department's Civilian of the Year for 2018.
