Officer of the Year

​Detective Brian McClaran

​Detective Brian McClaran was awarded the Officer of the Quarter for both the 3rd and 4th Quarters of 2017. He responded to multiple calls during that time to assist patrol due to call volume or priority of the call. During the 3rd Quarter, he responded to three specific calls involving deadly weapons that were brought to a quick resolution by his immediate response and action to assist other officers. One call during the 4th Quarter was the apartment fire at Post Oak Crossing Apartments. He helped set up a perimeter and assisted the Sherman Fire Department in protecting the people. Also during this same period. Det. McClaran continued to be a liaison with the Dallas Police Homicide Unit that involved a majority of persons that were residing in the Sherman and Denison area. He was resourceful in locating and even arresting many of those persons. He also assisted in their investigation of the brutal murder of a young female. He continued to maintain the relationship with Denison PD and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office by working closely and sharing information. He assisted the Sherman CID in locating and interviewing suspects involved in a series of vehicle burglaries all across the City of Sherman. He worked with Sherman CID and Grayson County District Attorney’s Office to locate, surveil and arrest on multiple occasions a suspect that was stalking/harassing one of the prosecutors. In addition to all this, he still managed to keep up with his assigned cases, productivity, and Federal commitments. During the 3rd and 4th Quarters combined, Det. McClaran accrued over 327 hours of overtime. His attitude toward his work, his colleagues, and furthering the mission of this agency in preventing, reducing, and disrupting crime demonstrate selflessness far beyond the standard.

For his exemplary conduct and work ethic, Detective Brian McClaran is hereby recognized as the Sherman Police Department’s Officer of the Year for 2017. 

Civilian of the Year

​Administrative Coordinator Jarena Capps

​Administrative Coordinator Jarena Capps received the Civilian of the 2nd Quarter of 2017. Throughout 2017, she continued to coordinate all aspects of training in a timely fashion from processing the paperwork to booking the accommodations. She recorded the training for officers and communication officers with TCOLE in order to maintain their certifications. She scheduled off-duty jobs for the officers as well. In addition to the training and the off-duty jobs, Jarena distributed the replacement/new uniforms and gear to all the officers, current and incoming. This year has been an exceptionally busy year for this aspect of her job.

​In recognition of her exemplary performance of duty throughout 2017, Jarena Capps is hereby awarded the Sherman Police Department’s Civilian of the Year for 2017.
